$60,000 - 65,000 annually DOE, health benefits

Background & Scope of Responsibility

Wallace Medical Concern is a nonprofit, volunteer-staffed, free health clinic for low-income adults and children without health insurance. With the help of more than 230 medical volunteers and financial support from the local community, WMC cares for 2,500 people a year, helping them get back to work, school and taking care of their families.

Founded in 1983, The WMC has served over 45,000 people, expanding patient services by 45% in the past three years. With an office/clinic located in Gresham and a satellite clinic in downtown Portland, Wallace currently has a staff of 6 and an annual operational budget of $450,000. The Executive Director is responsible for nurturing and implementing the mission and strategic vision of the organization by spearheading program development, fundraising efforts, and maintaining relationships with the Board of Directors, community partners and major donors.

This is a high-level position, requiring someone with the following experience and characteristics :

  • Proven leadership experience, preferably working with a non-profit organization, managing a staff of 5-10 people.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and support staff as a collaborative leader.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively and publicly promote the organization and to forge and maintain relationships with community and funding partners.
  • Proven track record of working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to building a culturally-competent organization.
  • Experienced strategic thinker able to respond effectively in a rapidly changing health care environment.
  • Extensive fundraising and volunteer recruitment/development experience.
  • Interest and commitment to health care issues of the underserved and uninsured.
  • Great written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to listen carefully and mindfully.
